New Zealand

In recent years the New Zealand category has become more and more popular with our discerning clients. This is largely driven by the wines made from the sauvignon blanc which can span several different styles. From nice uncomplicated, delicious, zingy little fruit bombs at a price point that is lower than in recent years to the more exotic and serious contenders from such producers as Cloudy Bay, Dog Point, Palliser, Craggy Range, Saint Clair,Pegasus Bay etc…The list could go on and on. But in the love affair with sauvignon blanc it’s important to remember that there are other excellent white wines coming out of New Zealand that are worth trying. eg. Chardonnay & Riesling. Chardonnay is now available at several different levels, from the reasonably priced, delicious unoaked styles from Kim Crawford and Babich *to really outstanding, classic examples from producers like *Kumeu River, Craggy Range, Felton Road, Pegasus Bay and the delicious wines from the wonderful Nelson winery – Neudorf that can hold their own against examples from any other wine region in the world. We now have Rieslings from several varied regions and they cover different styles and price points. Look for really exciting rieslings from Alan Scott, Felton Road and the Waipara winery, Pegasus Bay. When you talk with winemakers you will find many who will tell you that Chardonnay or Riesling makes the best white wine coming out of New Zealand. But whatever you choose, you will always get a wine that is exciting, delicious and packed with pure fruit flavors.
