This property, discovered and resurrected by Dr. Alain Raynaud, was acquired by Chateau Cheval Blanc and with a few refinements as well as a label change, the quality of the terroir (within the city limits of Libourne) continues to impress. Richly fruity, spicy and earthy, with attractive black cherry and currant fruit, this medium-bodied wine has soft tannins and seems ideal for drinking over the next 7-10 years. - Drink: 2015 – 2025

From Chateau Cheval Blanc’s Winemaking Team!

Located in a walled vineyard in the Libourne suburbs of the St. Emilion appellation, Chateau Qunault’s history is largely unknown but was believed to have originated in the17th century. While its past might be a bit mysterious, what is crystal clear is its future. Resurrected in the 1990’s by Alain Raynaud, former president of the Union des Grands Crus and owner of several chateaux in Pomerol, the estate was purchased in 2008 by Bernard Arnault, head of luxury goods empire LVMH, and his associate Albert Frère, adding to their portfolio of top-rated Saint-Émilion properties Château Cheval Blanc and Château la Tour du Pin Figeac. The 2012 vintage represents the 4th vintage under the Chateau Cheval Blanc winemaking team and the final conversion to organic farming. Made from 81% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc, it has a fresh, clean nose of ripe blackberry, plum and licorice with a dash of cloves. On the palate it is supple and round with plush fruit and flavors of raspberry jam, flint and cinnamon stick. We recommend you open this wine one hour before serving to unleash all the aromatic complexities of this pedigreed St. Emilion.
