Lalande de Pomerol's Benchmark

Considered the benchmark producer of Lalande de Pomerol, Chateau La Fleur de Bouard makes wines that often compare with the greatest Bordeaux appellations. Co-owner of legendary Chateau Angelus, Hubert de Bouard purchased the property nearly two decades ago looking to untap the potential of this region that had long been in the shadow of its more prestigious neighbor, Pomerol. From their prime position in the best terroir of the region, a clay and gravelly plateau called Neac, the vines de Bouard purchased were in meticulous condition, having never been neglected by their previous owner. Nonetheless, de Bouard brought to his new acquisition an unparalleled level of technical expertise that has not only further enhanced the wine, but also the region as a whole (Chateau Latour recently invested here in 2014). This being the Right Bank, Merlot is the predominant varietal and well suited to the fertile soil and sunny microclimate. The 2015 growing season was generous to producers all over Bordeaux, but the Right Bank specifically produced wines that hit high marks: aromatic finesse, massive fruit and perfectly integrated tannins. Truly a classic Bordeaux vintage with charm and purity of fruit, this bottling will make a fine introduction to a region coming into its own.
