Few Chambertins live up to the majesty that the name and price tag certainly suggest. Drouhin's Chambertin is dark ruby, has plenty of extract, is ripe and concentrated as well as tannic, but does not seem profound or special. It should be cellared until about 1992, but will keep for ten years after that. The 1985s from this famous firm are all impeccably clean, correct, well-made wines. Drouhin has managed to preserve the individual identity of each appellation as the wines do not taste alike. There is, of course, a house style, but that can be said of the wines from a small grower as well.
