Eye : A purple dress with a rather discreet intensity.

Nose : A nose of remarkable aromatic intensity, and eminently complex. The first scent announces the mirabelle plum, plum, blood oranges, dried roses, but also, sandalwood, sweet notes of blond tobacco, sage and garrigue.

Palate : With a serious complexity is required: first, a full bouquet of black fruit (blackcurrant, black cherry, fig, blackberry, blueberry), then notes of zan, white and black pepper mixed, we find the garrigue and the mirabelle plum brandy. The tannins are silky and subtle , the texture on the palate is also complex, since the chewiness is indisputable while offering a fine and mellow velvety texture.

Overall : Finally, the proposed finish is sweet and languorous, and offers an endless aromatic persistence. This cuvée is of singular nobility and faithfully reveals the authenticity of its terroir. A great Châteauneuf du Pape !

95 pts Wine Advocate

Almost all Grenache from mostly sandy soils, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Grande Reserve is a healthy step above the domaine's regular bottling. A touch of aging in demi-muids has given the wine hints of cedar, vanilla and baking spices, but 95% of the wine was aged in concrete, so the oak influence is subtle. Most of what this wine delivers is full-bodied, ripe Grenache fruit, creamy in texture and loaded with mixed red berries and cherries. It's a superb effort. Drinking window 2018-2030
