This wine has a bright gold colour with greenish highlights. The bouquet brings together hawthorn blossoms, ripe grapes, marzipan, hazelnut, amber, lemon-grass and green apple. Milky (butter, hot croissant) and mineral aromas (flint) and honey. Body and bouquet blend into a subtle harmony. This wine combines grace with a well-defined character and a remarkable concentration.
Home to some of the most spectacular Chardonnays in the world, Puligny Montrachet has an established reputation like no other in Burgundy. After all, apart from the hill of Corton, almost all the Chardonnay Grand Crus of the Cote de Beaune are found within the boundaries of Puligny Montrachet. When an appellation is so rife with Grand and Premier Crus, grapes for even village level bottlings like this come from great soil. Upon uncorking, senses are catapulted into multilayered bliss. It’s where marzipan meets ripe, golden apple, apricots and hot buttered croissants. On the palate, this wine walks a tightrope of tension between the crisp acidity and the ripe, luscious fruit. Flavors of yellow peach and pear unfold to mingle with subtle pineapple, toasted hazelnuts and are backed up by gravelly mineral flavors. Puligny Montrachet’s are among our most popular white Burgundy categories. To find one under $50 is worth taking the plunge, especially if you enjoy a wine that seeks the balance between complex and easy-going.
