2017 is an early vintage. Harvests started on August 29th, the grape clusters were dense and compact thanks to excellent flowering in late May. Favourable climate conditions gave charm and generosity to the wines. 2017 is a classic style of vintage that can also be enjoyed in its youth. The wines are smooth and round with discreet tannins and good sugar levels. These seductive wines are quite similar to the 2007 and 2011 vintages although with a more fleshy palate.
-Winemaker's Notes

Vinous

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from about nine hectares around the appellation, although usually around one-third is sold off. It has an attractive bouquet of raspberry, cranberry and wet limestone aromas. The palate is a little chewy on the entry, but there is good acidity and plenty of crunchy red berry fruit. The correct, short but focused finish is quite Morey-like in style. Drink over the next eight to 10 years.

Wine Advocate

Wafting from the glass with an inviting bouquet of ripe berry fruit, spices, forest floor and blood orange, Domaine Faiveley's 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with ripe but succulent acids and melting tannins that frame a fleshy and attractively sapid core of fruit, concluding with a flavorful finish. This is an excellent Gevrey that's already nicely integrated and which will offer a wide drinking window.
