Big Bottles

Jeroboam, Rehoboam, Methuselah, Salmanazar, Balthazar and Nebuchadnezzar…we have them all! Not the Biblical Kings of course, but exceptionally fine wines in the ideal format! There is no better center piece at a table or in a cellar than one of these big bottles. Nothing says “party” like a Balthazar of wine. A Balthazar is 16x larger than a normal bottle…a 12-liter bottle! And why are these bottles named after the Biblical Kings you may ask? Well, no one really knows, but you can sure have some fun reading all the crazy stories.

Domaine-Lignier-Michelot-Clos-de-La-Roche-Magnum-2011

Domaine Lignier-Michelot, Clos de La Roche Magnum, 2011

Domaine Lignier-Michelot 2011 Clos de La Roche Magnum is a rich red Burgundy that offers powerful layers of sweet fruit, chocolate, spice, oak and earth character with great complexity and balance, full body and a long finish.

“Good deep red. Deep, sappy aromas and flavors of maraschino cherry, licorice, chocolate, mocha and spices, plus hints of damp earth and underbrush. The sweetest of these 2011s and quite open-knit today. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins.”
- International Wine Cellar (91-93 points)

“There is enough wood to notice though it does not dominate the ripe plum, black cherry, cassis, warm earth and abundant spice nuances. There is outstanding richness to the big-bodied and overtly powerful flavors that possess a suave mouth feel before culminating in a firm, long, balanced and superbly complex finish. Well worth considering.”
- Allen Meadows, Burghound (92-95 points)

Clos-de-la-Chapelle-Corton-Rognets-Double-Magnum-2015

Clos de la Chapelle, Corton Rognets Double Magnum, 2015

“The 2015 Corton “Rognet” from Clos de la Chapelle is outstanding, offering up great purity to go with the depth, power and aging potential of the very best 2015s. Readers may recall that these fifty year-old vines lie just above those of Jean-Nicolas Meo on the slope in the heart of this lieu a dit, which lies alongside of Bressandes and Renardes. As deep as all of the top premier crus were here in 2015, there is an extra element of profundity evident in the Rognet, but one will have to be patient to enjoy this wine at its zenith. The very promising bouquet offers up scents of black cherries, dark berries, roasted venison, dark chocolate, a superb base of soil, woodsmoke and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and tangy, with a rock solid core, impressive transparency, firm, ripe tannins, excellent focus and grip and a very long, poised and youthfully complex finish. This is going to be a long-distance runner par excellent, but once it is ready to drink, it is going to be pure magic." – John Gilman, View from the Cellar (94 Points)

Christian-Moreau-Chablis-Valmur-Double-Magnum-2008

Christian Moreau, Chablis ''Valmur'' Double Magnum, 2008

“Iris and musky peony along with white peach and grapefruit inform the seductive nose of Moreau’s 2008 Chablis Valmur, which offers a winning combination of richness and textural plushness with refreshment and levity, as well as a strong, chalky undertone that emerges especially in the wine’s long finish. High-toned, metaphorically cooling and soothing herbal impressions add to the allure of wafting inner-mouth floral perfume, while hints of huckleberry and juniper add piquant stimulation.” – Wine Advocate (92 points)

Christian Moreau, Chablis ''Vaudesir'' Double Magnum, 2004

LIMITED QUANTITIES AVAILABLE
The Grand Cru appellation was ratified by law in 1938. Since then, 111 hectares of vineyards stretching across the right bank of the Serein river in a crescent shape have been entitled to produce wine bearing the Chablis Grand Cru appellation. These vineyards enjoy optimum sunshine with their south/south-western exposure. Seven “climats” or single vineyards have contributed to the worldwide notoriety of the great white wines of Chablis: Les Clos, Vaudésir, Valmur, Blanchot, Les Preuses, Grenouilles, and Bougros.
Origin
There are seven prestigious “climats”, all of which are located in the commune of Chablis. Vaudésir is one of them, with its 14.71-hectare vineyard located between Les Preuses and Valmur. This wine’s fruit and authentic expression of the terroir make it a favourite among wine lovers.

Chalky scree slopes overlying Kimmeridgian marl. The soil is heavy and is strewn with small fossilized oysters known as “Exogyra Virgula”.

Food and wine pairing
Excellent with seafood, langoustine or lobster. Also goes well with fish or poultry in cream sauce.
THIS BOTTLING IS IN THE DOUBLE MAGNUM FORMAT EQUIVALENT TO 4 REGULAR BOTTLES.

Hubert-Lamy-Saint-Aubin-Blanc-Frionnes-Double-Magnum-2015

Hubert Lamy, Saint Aubin Blanc ''Frionnes'' Double Magnum, 2015

Double Magnum Format Equivalent to 4 Regular Bottles
The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes has a complex bouquet with hints of white flowers intermingling with the citrus and stony aromas. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry, the acidity very nicely judged here and lending wonderful harmony and focus. It gently fans out on the finish with hints of greengage and citrus peel, completing a superb Saint-Aubin from Olivier Lamy. This comes recommended.

Trotanoy-Pomerol-Magnum-2014

Trotanoy, (Pomerol) Magnum, 2014

“The 2014 Trotanoy had (que surprise!) closed down on the nose compared to its JP Moueix stablemates. A few swirls of the glass and it reveals very precise, mineral-soaked black fruit laced with black truffle and subtle sous-bois aromas. It soon gathers momentum and the aromas were gaining more and more intensity after five minutes. The palate is outstanding. There is brilliant structure here, immense and almost staggering purity, incredible focus and tension with an electrifying spiciness on the finish. Best Pomerol of the vintage? The only thing wrong with that last sentence is the question mark at the end.” – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (97 points)

Lanson-Clos-Lanson-Brut-Magnum-2006

Lanson, Clos Lanson Brut Magnum, 2006

From the immured one-hectare vineyard on the top of the hill, which also harbors the cellar of Champagne Lanson that dates back into the 18th century, the 2006 Clos Lanson is 100% first press Chardonnay from a very fine, chalky soil. It was fermented and aged in Argonne oak until spring 2007 (no malolactic fermentation), and disgorged after seven and a half years on the lees in December 2014 as Brut Nature with a dosage of three grams per liter. This bright yellow-golden colored prestige Champagne offers a brilliant nose of pure and ripe Chardonnay, along with delicate chalky flavors. Full and round on the palate, with a nice freshness and purity, this is a very elegant and well-balanced Blanc de Blancs. it has an aromatic as well as clear, fresh and mineral finish. This very first release has a very good length and characteristic mineral taste, with iodine notes along with ripe fruit and vanilla brioche flavors in the finish. This is a great new entry in the Lanson portfolio and it will improve with age. Total production is 7,870 serially numbered bottles.

Clos-de-la-Chapelle-Corton-Bressandes-Double-Magnum-2014

Clos de la Chapelle, Corton Bressandes Double Magnum, 2014

“Generous wood and menthol again suffuses the ripe and fresh nose that consists of dark cherry, earth, forest floor and soft sauvage nuances. There is really lovely delineation to the big-bodied and also overtly powerful flavors that possess a bit more refinement before concluding in a tautly muscular, focused and attractively textured finish that is serious but not really austere. This is even more structured than the Rognet and indisputably going to require an extended stay in a cool cellar. Patience!” (92-94 pts) -Burghound.com

“Limpid violet. A seductively perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red berries, Asian spices and potpourri, and subtle cola and licorice nuances emerge with aeration. Juicy and pure on the palate, offering intense raspberry, lavender pastille and spicecake flavors and a refreshingly bitter touch of blood orange. Delivers a serious payload of vibrant berry and spice character without excess weight, and finishes extremely long and nervy, displaying no rough edges and lingering florality.” – Vinous (94 points)

Domaine-Lignier-Michelot-Clos-de-La-Roche-Magnum-2013

Domaine Lignier-Michelot, Clos de La Roche Magnum, 2013

“Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru from Virgile Lignier has a vivid bouquet with animated blackberry and raspberry preserve aromas, fine mineralité and well integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red cherries and raspberry, sweet tannin, fine acidity and a juicy, quite structured finish with a generous pinch of white pepper spicing things up. This is a resounding success. Tasted September 2016.” – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (95 Points)

Silver-Oak-Cabernet-Sauvignon-Alexander-Valley-Double-Magnum-2014

Silver Oak, Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley) Double Magnum, 2014

Our 2014 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a garnet color with a ruby red rim and bluish tint. It has an alluring nose of chocolate-covered strawberries, vanilla, nutmeg, truffle and sage. On the palate, it has a broad yet delicate entry and offers cranberry flavors. These flavors are complimented by raspberry and pluot flavors and savory black olive characters on the mid-palate. The wine finishes with silky tannins, cedar and bramble flavors with excellent length and return. Given proper cellaring conditions, this wine will be deliciously drinkable through 2038.

Hubert Lamy, Saint Aubin Blanc ''Derriere Chez Edward'' 1er Cru Double Magnum, 2015

DOUBLE MAGNUM FORMAT
The 2015 St Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard has a pretty bouquet with hints of white peach intermixed with fresh pear and frangipane aromas. The palate is marked by good acidity, very sharp, almost shrill, but keeping everything balanced on the penetrating finish. It just needs to gain a little more density during the remainder of its élevage, though Olivier Lamy’s wines have a tendency to do exactly that.

Dom Perignon, Magnum, 2009

“This is a DP that shows the ripeness of the 2009 vintage yet remains full of energy. Gorgeous aromas of cream, apple, mango, honeysuckle, and chalk follow through to a full body and super fine, tight texture. Dense and agile. Vinous. It’s like a top grand cru white Burgundy. Think Batard-Montrachet. More depth than the 2006. Drink now.” James Suckling
