Golden yellow hue, like stalks of straw glinting in the sun, the 2018 vintage is bright and layered on the nose. Scents of lemon squares offer both irresistible freshness and the promise of creaminess. The nose warms to reveal additional notes of honeycomb, toasted wood and floral aromas. With a round viscosity, the palate is also defined by citrus – flavors of Meyer lemon enliven the mouth, while a lush texture imparts the smoothness of honey. The finish features traces of lemon meringue pie crust along with hints of apricot, an echo of this wine’s distinctly, lush, bright fruit character.

Winery Notes

Fruity & Sun Kissed!

Just like the sun-kissed landscape of California, Mer Soleil Chardonnay is a golden-hued, radiant wine that speaks to the place where it was born. Brought to you by the Wagner family, of Caymus Vineyards fame, owner and winemaker Charlie Wagner is passionate about the remarkable landscape and character of the Santa Lucia Highlands and Monterey coast. A truly dramatic landscape, the weather shifts throughout the course of the day -  morning fog, bright sunshine and afternoon breezes transition to impressive gusts of howling winds, which lead to the in-house credo "moody weather creates expressive wines!" If you’re used to drinking lean whites, then get ready to buckle in for a parade of fruits upon opening this bottle. Fresh, tropical aromas of ripe pineapple, mango and peaches drizzled with honey and vanilla leap from the glass. On the palate it is fruit-forward and creamy with loads of lemon meringue and yellow peach flavors, backed up by buttery pie crust and oak. This is a hedonistic wine that is generously fruited, yet still maintains excellent balance and harmony.

Fun Fact

If you happen to catch the scent of lemon in this wine, there’s a reason! The Wagners wanted to diversity their crops and planted Lisbon and Meyer lemons near their vineyard holdings. Over time, an unexpected benefit emerged — hints of delicate lemon blossoms began gracing the Chardonnay, their scent and flavor carrying over from the nearby orchard.
