Gitton-Pere-et-Fils-Sancerre-Silex-Galinot-2016

Gitton Pere et Fils, Sancerre ''Silex'' Galinot , 2016

Once a single acre vineyard “estate” that produced table wine for his grandmother’s town bistro in 1945, Pascal Gitton worked with his father, and now wife and daughter, to acquire, cultivate and produce world class Sancerre and wines on what is now 75 acres of vineyards that stretch across Sancerre, Coteaux-de-Giennois and Pouilly-Fume. With an average vine age of 50 years or older, these vineyards house the most essential terroir in the Loire Valley, ranging from chalky clays to limestone boulders. But it’s the “Silex” lots that often capture the most attention, due to their flinty (smoky) characteristics.
