Domaine-du-Castel-Blanc-du-Castel-Haute-Judee-2014

Domaine du Castel, Blanc du Castel (Haute Judee), 2017

“The 2017 Chardonnay Blanc du Castel was aged for 11 months in French oak (one-third each of new, second and third use). It comes in at 13% alcohol. The Blanc du Castel is always a little too creamy and caramel-y for my tastes. That said, these can hold long enough to absorb some wood. Plus, the tension on the finish, at least this year, helps balance the wine. The concentration is good. There is a hint of flint on the finish, but at the moment that is very well controlled. Clearly, this needs a food pairing. For the moment, let’s lean up here, but this does have to pull in some wood over the next year or so.”
