Sylvain Cathiard Vosne Romanee Suchots 2017 is available to buy in increments of 1
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru, matured in 57% new oak (Sébastien Cathiard and I did the math!), has a slight reduction on the nose, but underneath lies tightly coiled brambly red fruit mixed with stony, almost flinty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth entry, and silky from start to finish, offering candied red berry fruit laced with blood orange and a hint of soy. Very harmonious and long, this is an accomplished Les Suchots for long-term aging.

92-94 pts Wine Advocate

Bursting from the glass with lavish aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries and cassis that mingle with nuances of smoked duck and rich soil, the 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots is full-bodied, broad and dramatic, with a fleshy attack, considerable depth and volume at the core, and a long, succulent finish. This is an immensely seductive Suchots. Sébastien Cathiard has produced some of the wines of the 2017 vintage, a stunning portfolio that vindicates his decision to harvest late this year. The rudiments of the approach are simple: meticulous viticulture—though not, I should add, especially low yields—and careful sorting, followed by complete destemming, macerations of 20-30 days and maturation in barrel from some 15-18 months. The impact of new oak, once a defining feature of the Cathiard style, is now significantly less obtrusive, a thoroughly positive evolution that's been in evidence over the last few vintages and which seems to have been consummated with a beautifully integrated range of 2017s. Unfortunately, the market has already taken notice, and these wines are scarce and expensive. What's more, the quality Cathiard has achieved with this vintage will only add fuel to the fire.

91-93 pts Burghound

A whisper of wood can be found on the very ripe and beautifully layered array of red currant, Asian-style tea, lavender and violet aromas. The medium-bodied flavors are rich, intense and relatively robust with excellent depth and drive on the austere, backward and strikingly long finish. This beauty possesses outstanding potential but patience is indisputably required.
