Wine Enthusiast

Fresh green pear, a smidgen of white pepper and fresh yeast on the nose spell youthful freshness. The palate mirrors these flavors on a light, easy and slender body that finishes with dryness and freshness.

Move Over Sauvignon Blanc, Here Comes Grüner!

The Salomon family are longtime friends of Sherry-Lehmann and one of the great winemaking families of Austria. Since 1792 they have been making the finest wines from the best terraced sites along the Danube. Grüner Veltliner is an indigenous varietal from Austria, known for its lean, zesty acidity. Once obscure and unknown, it has enjoyed a rise in popularity due to some of the most famous Sommeliers in the world rallying behind it (we’re talking about you, Aldo Sohm!). You can think of it as an exotic alternative to Sauvignon Blanc. Dry, with grapefruit and lime flavors, it has distinctive white pepper overtones and fresh vegetal notes. For the home cook, this wine is a dream. Incredibly versatile, it has the ability to pair well with difficult foods like asparagus and artichokes and goes especially well with fried foods like Schnitzel and fried chicken. We even like it with take out sushi. This is Austria’s most important wine from one of the great winemaking families – attractively priced, you won’t want to miss out. Prost!
