San-Giorgio-Brunello-di-Montalcino-Ugolforte-2013

San Giorgio, Brunello di Montalcino Ugolforte , 2013

Located in Castelnuovo dell’Abate at the top of a ridge at 1,300 feet above sea level, San Giorgio is uniquely positioned in the southeastern part of Montalcino. The soil is rich with fossils and there is also a major presence of clay with big portion of tufaceus outcrops. The climate is mild and Mediterranean with nearly constant winds.

“An elegant, focused style, offering macerated cherry and strawberry, floral, leather and mineral aromas and flavors. Firm and well-integrated, showing equilibrium and length on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2038. 1,250 cases made, 600 cases imported”
Wine Spectator (94 points)

“Despite San Giorgio’s new ownership, not much has been done to change the style and personality of this pretty Sangiovese. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolforte walks a straight line somewhere between elegance and substance. The wine is streamlined and pure with a pretty succession of wild berry aromas, spice, licorice and balsam herb. It offers a tight and elegant delivery.”
Wine Advocate (92 points)

“Bright red. Flinty, perfumed aromas of sour red berries, cinnamon and flowers. Then ripe, dense and sweet on the palate, offering very polished tannins and a creamy texture that nicely frame red cherry, raspberry and potpourri flavors. Finishes penetrating and very pure, featuring lingering flinty and red berry notes. Great stuff.”
