Faiveley, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, 2011

Clos de Vougeot was developed by the Cistercian monks. Between the years 1109 and 1115, the monks purchased (or land was donated) acreage and planted vineyards. In 1336, the vineyard was complete and a wall was erected. Chateau Clos de Vougeot was built in 1551 using (in part) the remnants of a chapel. It now serves as the headquarters of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. Clos de Vougeot is the largest single vineyard designation in the Cote de Nuits with Grand Cru designation.
