Winery Notes

The LBD of Roses!

We like to think of this affordable, everyday Rose as the “Little Black Dress” of pink wines to have on hand all summer. Versatile and accessible, you never know when you’ll need it, and when you do, it’s always the right choice. While we have lots of winemaker friends at Sherry-Lehmann, not all of them hold France’s highest civilian award, the Legion of Honor, like Jean-Luc Colombo. Awarded due to the significant, lifelong contributions as winemaker consultant throughout the country, his innovative approach was first directed to the Rhone Valley’s illustrious Syrah-focused, yet small appellation, Cornas. And from there, has trickled down to all parts of his portfolio, including this fantastic cellar staple. Comprised of mostly Syrah, followed by Mourvedre, the vineyards are located in Marseille, where savvy shoppers know great bargains can be found. With a pale, salmon pink color, delicate aromas of red berries, whiffs of watermelon and grapefruit invite us in. On the palate it is light and dry, with plenty of strawberry and raspberry flavors and firm acidity. With Jean-Luc’s incredible accolades, you can be sure there is plenty of quality for the price.
