A Nahe Legend!

With summer in full swing and July temperatures soaring, we find having a light and crisp white is just the thirst quencher we need to take us through the dog days of summer. Without a trace of oak, moderate alcohol and clear-cut fruit, Riesling is one of the most pristine wines that you can enjoy under the blazing sun. The Donnhoff’s are a legendary winemaking family in the Nahe, having come to the region 200 years ago. Their vineyard holdings represent some of the best sites in all of Germany. It is here in the Nahe where the soils are full of slate and volcanic rock, which gives to the noble Riesling grape its hallmark, mineral-drenched flavor profile. If you hear Riesling and immediately think sweet, you won’t find that in this bottling – this is a dry wine and the massive acidity is the saving grace that keeps all that crystalline fruit in check. We don’t often find wines under $20 that score so highly but James Suckling ranked this one at 92 points, saying "This sophisticated white has delicious white peaches and ripe apples, but also a great balance of freshness and juiciness.” This wine is definitely worth having within reach for the ultimate summer refresher!

Pro-Tip

The lighter the wine is in color and style, the colder it should be served to maintain its acidity and freshness – serve this delicious Riesling colder than you would a Chablis or Sancerre. Serve at 45–49°F.
