The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles Vieilles Vignes comes from around 60-year old vines. Perhaps this is the most discrete of Bachelet's 2017s on the nose with tightly wound blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, the mineral component emerging reluctantly with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, silky smooth in texture with a sorbet-fresh, elegant finish. Wonderful, but it needs cellaring to overcome its bashfulness.

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles offers up aromas of spicy currant fruit and coniferous forest floor, subtly framed by creamy new wood. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, more tensile and less gourmand than the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes, with fine-grained structuring tannins, tangy acids and a long finish. This will need more time, but it's a very pretty Evocelles.
