Aromatically even more intoxicating than previous vintages, bolstered by the increase of Cabernet Franc to 15%. Primary notes of black cherry, dark chocolate, raspberry, cedar box, Herbes de Provence, and rose petals intermingle with flavors of blackberry, cocoa powder, soy and black olive. The finish is rich and full bodied with finely polished tannins, a hallmark of this vintage. It's hard not to go back or another glass. Esteemed wine critic Jeb Dunnuck opined the 2017 Oakville Ranch the best Napa Valley Cabernet under $100, and the 2018 is even better. Cépage: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot.

Just phenomenal juice, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch offers up a deep purple hue as well as a stunning array of pure crème de cassis and blueberry fruits interwoven with notions of chocolate, green tobacco, lead pencil, and violets. Reminding me of a great Pomerol (L'Eglise Clinet) with its purity, complexity, and seamlessness, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This is a powerful wine, yet it shines just as brightly for its elegance and balance. It's going to evolve for 30-35+ years or more.

94-96 pts Wine Advocate

This 2018 Oakville Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is a barrel sample blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. Medium garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with vibrant red and black cherries, red currant jelly and cassis scents with hints of red roses, pencil shavings and fallen leaves plus a waft of lavender. Medium-bodied, elegantly played and with fantastic quiet intensity, the palate sings of perfumed red and black fruit with beautifully ripe, fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing with epic length.

93-96 pts Vinous

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch is dense, powerful and brooding. It is also incredibly tightly wound, with tons of structure, but less of the sensuality of the year coming through. Today, the 2018 is marked by the high acids that are typical of this site and potent, big tannins and the natural structure of the 15% Franc in this blend - the highest ever. These wines have a way of coming together during their aging; I imagine that will be the case here as well, like Avoyelles. The higher percentage of Franc in this blend works well, but it also tilts the wine closer stylistically towards the Oakville Ranch Cabernet.
