This stunning rosé is a delicious reminder of Bandol’s rightful place at the top of the rosé hierarchy. Shining and brilliant with its copper color, it has a nose that is buzzing with top notes of blood orange and nectarine, followed by grounding elements of red currants and spice. On the palate it has pronounced roundness and layer upon layer of red berry fruit and hints of orange peel that mingle together until the bright, mineral-drenched finish. It is right at home with a bowl of black olives and a sunset. – Sherry Lehmann Staff Review

First Growth of Provence

Famous for its beaches and seaside towns, the very mention of Provence gets us craving the sand beneath our feet, a beach umbrella and a glass of thirst-quenching Rose. By now we’ve all become familiar with the casual sippers from Provence that we know and love. But when we’re ready to get serious about our Rose, we turn to Bandol, widely considered the First Growth of Provence. Set in a natural amphitheater facing the sea lies the family owned Gros Nore, helmed by Alain Pascal. Those who have read Kermit Lynch’s Inspiring Thirst will recognize the colorful stories about this legendary Provencal character. For years he sold his prized fruit from Bandol to Domaine Ott and Château de Pibarnon. In 1997 he switched from grower to vintner by establishing the Gros Nore label in honor of his father. And lucky for us! Shining and brilliant with its copper color, it has a nose that is buzzing with top notes of blood orange, raspberry and nectarine, followed by grounding notes of red currants and spice. On the palate it has pronounced roundness and layer upon layer of red berry fruit and hints of orange peel that mingle together until the bright, mineral-drenched finish. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, Bandol reigns supreme on the Provencal wine scene!
