DAngerville-Volnay-Clos-des-Ducs-2013

D'Angerville, Volnay ''Clos des Ducs'' , 2013

“The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs has that citrus-like freshness; that Seville orange marmalade trait that was tangible in a range of mature Clos des Ducs tasted the previous week. There are touches of violet that emerge with continued aeration. The palate is very feminine and refined, laid back almost, but that distracts from the structure underneath and the persistence and minerality on the finish. This is a regal, perhaps one should say, “ducal,” Clos des Ducs that should drink beautifully over the next 25-30 years." -Wine Advocate

Opus-One-Napa-Magnum-2012

Opus One, Napa Magnum, 2012

“Glorious purity of fruit here with black currants, blueberries, dark chocolate, fresh herbs and forest floor. Hints of mint too, plus hazelnut and chocolate. Full body with seamless tannins and balance. Tight and compacted tannins with beautiful fruit and great length. Goes on for minutes. One of the best Opus’ in years. Hard not to drink now but better in 2018. October 2015 release. This is 79% cabernet sauvignon, 7% cabernet franc, 6% merlot, 6% petit verdot and 2% malbec.” (97 pts) -James Suckling

Veuve-Clicquot-Cave-Privee-Brut-Magnum-1982

Veuve Clicquot, ''Cave Privee'' Brut Magnum, 1982

“Bright, sleek and elegant, with mouthwatering acidity, this is soft and creamy in texture, offering hints of smoked almond and whole-grain toast, accented by dried apple, crème brûlée and dried herb notes. Rich details of grilled nut and oyster shell linger on the persistent finish. Drink now through 2024.” -Wine Spectator (95 Points)

Domaine-Comte-Georges-de-Vogue-Bonnes-Mares-Grand-Cru-Magnum-2014

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Magnum, 2014

“The 2015 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is really blossoming now that the wine is safely in bottle. It has a gorgeous, floral bouquet with scents of blueberry, blackberry and briary, wonderful mineral expression here with a palpable sense of energy and precision. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, what you might call a “cool” Bonnes Mares, sleek and sensual with very fine tension towards the red cherry and kirsch tinged finish. What a gorgeous Bonnes-Mares, though I would be inclined to afford it several years in bottle. Tasted November 2016." (95 pts) -Robert Parker

Mommessin-Clos-de-Tart-Magnum-2011

Mommessin, Clos de Tart Magnum, 2011

“Bright ruby-red. Aromas of briary black raspberry, wild herbs, licorice, violet, rose and pepper. Smooth, dense and suave; shows a fine-grained texture but seemed to shut down in the glass. Finishes with good medicinal reserve and rather substantial, slightly dusty tannins that coat the front teeth. About half of the lots were vinified with whole clusters.” (91-93 pts) -Vinous.com

Domaine-Comte-Georges-de-Vogue-Musigny-Vieilles-Vignes-Magnum-2014

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue, Musigny Vieilles Vignes Magnum, 2014

“The 2014 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a very intense, cold stone and blackberry scented bouquet, moving towards subtle marine like aromas (oyster shells, Crustacea) with time. There is just wonderful precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth, firm backbone, a slightly more masculine Musigny with just a hint of savoriness towards the long finish. This is showing great personality even at this early juncture, although of course, it will not even consider reaching its drinking plateau without 8-10 years in bottle. I suspect this Musigny will only gradually open. Tasted November 2016.” (96 pts) -Robert Parker

Ridge-Vineyards-Monte-Bello-Meritage-Double-Magnum-2011

Ridge Vineyards, Monte Bello Imperial, 2011

“The 2011 Monte Bello (87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc) emerges from the glass with tobacco, grilled herbs, smoke, incense and plums melding together in this soft, beautifully textured Monte Bello. The 2011 is a wine of exceptional textural finesse. The 100% new oak is totally integrated. In 2011, Ridge used a total of 18 of a possible 24 lots for the final blend. The presence of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon is the highest since the 1980s. I expect the 2011 to be a relatively early drinking Monte Bello, but time will be the judge.” -Wine Advocate (93-95 Points

“The 2011 Monte Bello is quite open in this vintage. Silky, soft and accessible, the 2011 appears to be built for medium-term drinking. Sage, rosemary, lavender, licorice and menthol add complexity to a core of dark plum and cherries as the 2011 opens up in the glass. Overall, the 2011 is a solid Mont Bello, if a little less exciting than it was last year. In 2011, the blend is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc.” -Antonio Galloni (93 Points)

Quintarelli-Alzero-Double-Magnum-2007

Quintarelli, Alzero Double Magnum, 2007

“A blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, the 2007 Alzero is an Amarone-inspired red blend. The two Cabernet varieties undergo a three-month appassimento process and the Merlot is added at the last minute before bottling. This last grape adds a very evident layer of cherry sweetness and softness that goes a long way in defining this wine. Alzero has been in production since 1983 and no vintage has ever been skipped. This is a dark and brooding expression with a playful mix of sweet fruit intensity and dark tannic background shading.” -Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (95 Points)

Eisele-Vineyard-Cabernet-Sauvignon-Double-Magnum-2014

Eisele Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon Double Magnum, 2014

“Intensely scented dried flowers on the nose in the rose to lilac spectrum. Raspberry and blackberry undertones. Rose perfumes. It’s full-bodied, yet everything’s in finesse. Superfine tannins coat your palate and give you incredible length, and it all last for minutes on the palate. Great resonance. Not the power of 2013 but intellect and persistence prevails here. A joy to taste now, but this will improve for decades ahead.”(99 pts) -James Suckling

Dom-Perignon-P3-Magnum-1978

Dom Perignon, ''P3'' Magnum, 1978

In 2014, Dom Perignon announced that it would be changing the name of its late-release Oenothèque series into a “P2” and “P3” offerings, referring to the second and third “plenitudes” of development in the evolution of a Champagne.

P3 offerings are fully matured, recently disgorged Champagnes that have been stored in the cellars where they were originally made.

“Dom Pérignon wines follow the rhythm of three plénitudes: the first after seven years maturing on their lees; the second between eleven and twenty years; and the third beyond twenty. In the darkness of our cellars, from one plénitude to the next, Dom Pérignon will grow and blossom, transmuting time into energy….The lineage of all the vintages in their third plénitude represents the living memory of Dom Pérignon, transmitting this heritage through generations of Chefs de Cave.” -Winemaker’s Notes

Joseph-Drouhin-Beaune-Clos-des-Mouches-Rouge-45L-1976

Joseph Drouhin, Beaune ''Clos des Mouches'' Rouge 4.5L, 1976

“Unusually fresh and relatively bright aromas in the context of where the vast majority of ‘76s are today, even from larger format bottles, with spicy red and black fruit, sous-bois and earth hints that introduce rich, delicious and still vibrant medium full flavors underpinned by firm but integrated tannins on the long if ever-so-slightly drying finish. This is highly complex and drinking perfectly now and though it will hold for another 50 years in this format, I can’t see any further improvement. A first rate example of the vintage.” – Burghound (90 points)

Vega-Sicilia-Unico-Artist-Label-Double-Magnum-2007

Vega Sicilia, Unico Artist Label Double Magnum, 2007

“2007 was a cold vintage in Ribera and it produced lighter, fresher wines (perhaps not as problematic as 2008, but there was also frost in 2007). The wine might be a tad lighter than other vintages, but it’s more structured than 2008; it combines elegance and power, is nicely balanced and should be able to develop in bottle for many years” – Wine Advocate (95 points)

Screaming-Eagle-Cabernet-Sauvignon-2015

Screaming Eagle, Cabernet Sauvignon Magnum, 2015

“Blended of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a medium to deep garnet-purple color and nose of crushed blackberries, black cherries and wild blueberries with notions of fragrant earth, garrigue, lavender, Sichuan pepper and dried leaves. Medium-bodied with signature elegance and finesse, it’s the incredibly fine, oh-so-pixelated tannins that help to define the signature of this vineyard, beautifully supporting the elegant fruit, finishing with great poise. This is a very sensuous, pensive style and not for those seeking a full-on blockbuster but rather will greatly pleasure lovers of wines with quiet intensity and subtle depth.” (98 – 100 pts) Robert Parker(10/2017)

Palmer, (Margaux) 18-Liter (Melchoir), 1998

“Very deep garnet colour. Smokey / spicy aromas with some sweaty saddles, cloves and white pepper complimenting the core of warm cassis. The medium+ bodied wine is quite muscular with concentrated, somewhat masculine / savoury fruit juxtaposed by the elegance of structure. Medium to firm very fine tannins and medium+ acidity. Long finish.” -Wine Advocate (91 Points)

Domaine-Bouchard-Pere-et-Fils-Le-Montrachet-2015

Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils, Le Montrachet, 2015

“There is a hint of exoticism to the citrus, pear and white peach suffused nose that is presently trimmed in a noticeable, if very slight, touch of sulfur. The rich and extremely concentrated big-bodied flavors possess an impressive amount of dry extract as well as excellent length. Not surprisingly this is definitely going to need time as it’s on the monolithic side today and there isn’t quite the same sense of energy compared to the La Cabotte. Those items duly noted, my rating offers the benefit of the doubt that this will harmonize in time because at the time of my tasting it had been in bottle for barely 45 days.” (94 pts) -Burghound
