Piper-Heidsieck-Brut-NV-Magnum

Piper-Heidsieck, Brut NV Magnum

“Pale color with silver and green highlights. Complex, spicy, nicely ripe aromas of citrus skin and minerals. Ripe, fresh and concentrated; rich but refined, with a moderate dosage Lovely lemony acidity contributes to a youthful impression. Offers impressive intensity and clarity of flavor. Long and firm on the back end.”

Veuve-Clicquot-Brut-Yellow-Label-NV

Veuve Clicquot, Brut Yellow Label NV

Veuve Clicquot Champagne, one of the most famous Champagnes in the world. The well known “Yellow Label” represents quality to so many people. The layers of citrus and minerality from the Chardonnay, brambly berry from the Pinot Meunier, and the refined full structure from the Pinot Noir, which is the dominant variety in this blend, makes this an outstanding Non-Vintage Champagne.

Piper-Heidsieck-Piper-Rare-2002

Piper Heidsieck, Piper Rare, 2002

“A powerhouse, with verve to the finely cut, racy acidity, showing a sense of finesse and seamless integration of the firm frame. The silky texture carries layer upon layer of toasted brioche, currant and pear pâte de fruit flavors, with notes of grated ginger and coconut, cappuccino foam and spun honey. Mineral accents of smoke, ground spice and fleur de sel build on the long, echoing finish.”
Wine Spectator (97 points)

“A gorgeous wine that’s a legend in the making, the 2002 Rare Brut is a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, with just under 10 grams of dosage. Offering incredible notes of stone fruits, brioche, white flowers, and hints of toasted nuts, this flat out awesome wine is concentrated and opulent, yet still dances on the palate with vibrant acidity and great, great finish. It’s going to drink beautifully for another two to three decades. Bravo! This cuvee has only been made in 1976, 1979, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2002, and in 2007.”
– Jeb Dunnuck (97 points)

“Looks like becoming another legendary Piper in the same style and league as 1988, ’76 and ’55. Already focused and concentrated. Tough acids might scare some but sublime coffee and biscuity complexity is building up slowly. Sensual wine for all occasions.”
Decanter (95 points)

“I reported on the 2002 Piper-Heidsieck Rare a year ago and time does not seem to have touched it at all over the last twelve months, for if anything, this particular bottle seemed even younger than last year’s! The wine beautifully synthesizes the ripe fruit of ’02 with great structural integrity and seems likely to drink at its peak for at least another twenty years. The bouquet is a pure, complex blend of apple, white peach, a touch of leesiness, a great base of soil, fresh-baked bread, a touch of citrus peel and an overtly smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and superbly detailed, with a fine core of fruit, elegant mousse, bright acids and excellent backend mineral drive on the long, vibrant and very classy finish. (Drink between 2016-2035).”
– John Gilman (95 points)

“The pale gold, greenish shimmering 2002 Rare Millesime — 30% Pinot Noir and 70% Chardonnay — offers a very intense and rich, yet fresh nose of exotic fruit aromas of pineapples, mango, kiwi and passion fruit. On the palate, this is a mouthful of luscious Champagne: powerful and intense, but pure and with the complexity of matured wines. The finish is very exotic in its fruit aromas, but also persistently mineral.”
Wine Advocate (95 points)

“Light, bright gold. An intensely perfumed bouquet evokes candied orange, pear and ginger, with building floral and spice nuances. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering an array of citrus and floral flavors that become richer with air. A hint of nuttiness arrives on the finish, which is spicy, focused and very long. This Champagne seems set for a long life.”

Les-Pallieres-Au-Petit-Bonheur-les-Pallieres-Rose-2015

Les Pallieres, ''Au Petit Bonheur les Pallieres'' Rose, 2015

“Pale salmon skin. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red berries, tangerine, jasmine and iodine, and a smoky mineral nuance builds in the glass. Concentrated but impressively graceful, offering intense strawberry and orange pith flavors and an exotic suggestion of toasted grain. Lingers on the finish with real intensity and persistence, leaving floral and mineral notes behind.”

Thienot-Cuvee-Garance-Blanc-de-Noirs-2007

Thienot, ''Cuvee Garance'' Blanc de Noirs, 2007

“Named after Alain Thiénot’s daughter Garance, this is rich and full of delicious fruit. Well aged, it is just developing some secondary flavors that complement the ripe apple and crisp grapefruit flavors. The mineral tang on the finish adds a bit of levity.”

Shafer-Relentless-Syrah-2014

Shafer, ''Relentless'' Syrah, 2014

“Checking in as a blend of 89% Syrah and 11% Petit Sirah, the 2014 Syrah Relentless is a killer bottle of wine that offers decadent notes of blackcurrants, barbecued meats, seaweed wrapper, lavender, exotic pepper, and liquid smoke. This is a rich, unctuous Rhône inspired blend that packs serious amounts of fruit and richness, yet the elegant, forward style of the vintage keeps it silky, polished and incredibly drinkable. While I haven’t had every vintage of this cuvee (it was first made in 1999), my money is on this being up with the top handful of vintages. It’s a blockbuster today (if you’re oak adverse, give bottles 2-3 years) but will keep for two decades.”

Dipoli-Sauvignon-Blanc-Voglar-2014

Dipoli, Sauvignon Blanc ''Voglar'', 2014

“This is a very popular wine made with organic fruit. The 2014 Alto Adige Sauvignon Voglar is aged in large casks made with acacia wood. This vessel imparts almost exotic notes of honey, tropical fruit and fragrant flower. The wine is easy and near-term…but there is enough acidity and fruit to keep your attention.”

Pierre-Damoy-Chambertin-Clos-de-Beze-2014

Pierre Damoy, Chambertin Clos de Beze, 2014

“Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Damoy’s 2014 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru was one of the highlights of the entire tasting. It has a showstopper of a nose with brilliantly defined black plum, cranberry, wild strawberry, sous bois and minerals. You just have to stop and admire the clarity of the aromatics here. The palate is extremely well balanced with a fine bead of acidity interwoven through the black cherry, cranberry and raspberry fruit. There is the structure and masculinity of a Clos de Bèze, and yet it is certainly not unapproachable at this premature stage. Fabulous. You can feel the mouth still tingling long after the wine has departed. Quite brilliant. Tasted September 2017.”

Roserock-Chardonnay-Oregon-2015

Roserock, Chardonnay (Oregon), 2015

“The 2015 Roserock Chardonnay leads with clean, fresh aromas of apple, honeydew, white flowers, shortcake and a touch of nuttiness. On the palate, the wine is generous and round, with flavors of citrus tart, white peach, almonds, and spice with a delicious combination of minerality and richness. The finish is long. Enjoy the wine through 2020.”

Denis-Bachelet-Charmes-Chambertin-2014

Denis Bachelet, Charmes Chambertin, 2014

“Moderate wood sets off a deeply pitched nose that combines both wild red and dark cherry fruit along with hints of spice, stone and plenty of warm earth. There is a silky texture to the delicious and highly seductive flavors that possess excellent complexity and a lovely sense of underlying tension. Like several of the wines in the range in 2014 this isn’t super dense but I very much like the sense of harmony. Note that this should drink well young if desired though age well too.”

Denis-Bachelet-Cotes-de-Nuits-Villages-2014

Denis Bachelet, Cotes de Nuits Villages, 2014

“The 2014 Côtes de Nuits Villages has a controlled blackberry and wild strawberry-scented bouquet, a little tighter than the Bourgogne Rouge at the moment with just a faint hint of blueberry developing with time. The palate is fleshy on the entry with sappy black fruit, supple in the mouth with a tang of salinity towards the flattering finish. This is a very well crafted Côte de Nuits.”
