Atop the hierarchy of Beaujolais Crus are Moulin-à-Vent and Morgon, with notable aging potential. Often called the most "Burgundian" cru, Moulin-à-Vent shows complexity, finesse and length. Château des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent can age at least 10-20 years. Following harvest, a portion of the grapes are destemmed before the wine is vinified in closed vats with pumping over. Finally, the wine matures in oak barrels.

TASTING NOTES This full, robust Beaujolais offers a fleshy texture and greater longevity than any other Beaujolais cru. Its exceptional structure supports vivid red fruit aromas.

FOOD PAIRING Moulin-à-Vent is perfect with lighter red meat dishes.

92 pts James Suckling

Very refined and pretty with bright acidity. Cherries and watermelons. Floral, too. Medium body and fine, focused tannins. Linear. Pure gamay character here. Drink now.

91 pts Vinous

Brilliant violet. Smoke-accented blackberry, cherry, candied licorice and a hint of violet on the perfumed nose. Lush black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors show good, spicy lift and no rough edges. In an ample style, finishing sweet, broad and long, with building tannins and resonating floral and spice notes.

90 pts Wine Spectator

A richer style, but still fresh and focused, with plush tannins encasing raspberry filling and cherry compote notes, accented by dusty herb and licorice elements. Hints of mocha echo on the long finish. Drink now through 2024. 6,700 cases made, 425 cases imported.

90 pts Burghound

A ripe nose of pepper, pungent earth and poached plum leads to round, velvety and delicious medium weight flavors that possess very good concentration before culminating in a mildly rustic if notably warm finish. This is really quite good in the context of a difficult vintage in Beaujolais.
