Bodegas Faustino, "I" Gran Reserva, 1999
Bodegas Faustino makes a wonderful “old world” style Rioja which they hold in bottle for years before relase when thy feel it is at perfect drinkability.
The nose is of mushrooms, old barrels, and dried and concentrated fruits— the smells that only time in a cellar can provide. The mouth is far more fruity, showing red and bing cherries and cranberries, but the character of barrel aging that defines Gran Reserva remains, alongside herbal notes of green tobacco, herbs, and cardamom.
