Bourgogne Aligote

Domaine Jean Chartron, Bourgogne Aligote, 2006

Barrel fermented and lees aged, this wine is from vineyards very close to the village of Puligny-Montrachet. Aromas of citrus, apple and pear are fresh and fruity, the palate is nicely balanced and crisp.

Domaine A. & P. de Villaine, Aligote (Bouzeron), 2008

“Bourgogne Aligote—a close cousin of Chardonnay—produces a liveley, fruity wine, but it also has a finesse and roundness, a gift of the terroir.
Aubert de Villaine, co-owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and his wife Pamela established A & P de Villaine here.”

A fine aperitif, by itself, or can accompany fish and chicken dishes very well.

Puligny-Montrachet

Alain Chavy, Puligny-Montrachet, 2007

Alain’s philosophy is to continue the great work of his father (who insisted on classic Puligny-Montrachet that highlighted elegance, complexity and sophistication.)
Naturally quite tight at first point of tasting (Oct 08) but much, much more restrained than the 2006 we tasted exactly one year previously. There is noticeable spice, honey and ripeness alongside Alain’s typical alpine fresh, floral, mineral and very elegant style.

Auxey-Duresses Blanc "Les Clous"

Domaine D'Auvenay, Auxey-Duresses Blanc "Les Clous", 2004

“Unusually for a d’Auvenay white, there are fairly strong notes of vanilla and pain grillé that frame otherwise ripe and bright herbal and green fruit aromas that fade into round and extremely rich medium full flavors that are powerful, persistent and palate staining. This is also very impressive for its level."

Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru Magnum

Domaine Jean-Noel Gagnard, Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru Magnum, 2005

“This is backward, tight and not revealing much aromatically beyond pure white flower and spice aromas though the rich, full and strikingly powerful flavors possess superb depth of dry extract and huge length on the detailed, focused and penetrating finish. This is a potentially great Bâtard as everything necessary is here and this should age extremely well."

Batard-Montrachet

Louis Jadot, Batard-Montrachet, 2006

Notably ripe orchard fruit, including peach, pear and apricot is nuanced by notes of white flower and pain grillé that are followed by rich, full and opulent big-bodied and powerful flavors oozing with dry extract that confers an almost chewy character onto the explosive and sappy finish that delivers impressive length.

Domaine Leflaive, Batard- Montrachet Magnum, 2007

…On the ripe side for a 2007 with an ultra elegant nose that is pure, airy and cool, indeed this is unusually elegant for the appellation with its white flower, citrus, pear, menthol, white pepper and light spice hints that are in perfect keeping with the rich, full and broad-shouldered flavors that possess the usual volume and power of a classic Bâtard but do not lose any of the precision or detail on the expansive, mouth coating and hugely long and very dry finish. Like a number of examples in 2007, this is an elegant yet forceful Bâtard.

Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru

Blain-Gagnard, Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru, 2007

“In contrast to the expressiveness of the Criots, this is aromatically tight with only glimpses of white peach, citrus and floral notes discernable though the big-bodied and obviously well-muscled flavors are rich, pure and balanced, all wrapped in an explosive finish of almost painfully intense and even longer. This is an elegant, indeed even understated Bâtard with superb balance.” -Burghound.com

Batard Montrachet

Domaine Bouchard, Batard Montrachet, 2007

Bouchard, one of the correctly-acclaimed producers of Burgundian Grands Crus, has in 2007 a very fine Batard. They own a tiny parcel of this large, great vineyard, so the number of cases available for the entire world is quite limited. Grand Cru White Burgundy takes taime to evolve and this one will reward some patience.

Batard-Montrachet

Domaine Vincent Girardin, Batard-Montrachet, 2006

“A dense nose of very ripe Chardonnay; you can smell the power and the intensity before you even taste it. On the palate it’s a vanilla bean experience; ice cream flavors with bits of orange, almond and macadamia
nut. A monster with super racy acidity. A meal in itself.”
