Italian - White

The wonderful white wines of Italy are often over-looked in favor of white wines from France and the new world. However, Italian whites do not escape the attention of those in the know. They tend to be very good values and pair extremely well with food. Many wines from our Italian White inventory are great for summer-time drinking or pairing with seafood and Mediterranian specialties.

Soave

Allegrini, Soave, 2007

The resurgance of a wonderful, historic wine (sadly mismade and cheapened for the mass market until recently). The vines that produce these grapes are 25 years in age and are hand harvested in late September through to the first days of October. Fermented in stainless steel, the Soave has a bright straw color, fresh perfume and floral and fruit notes on the nose and palate.
80% Garganega, 20% Chardonnay.

Classico Bianco

Terlaner, Classico Bianco, 2008

Terlaner is a blend of Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and trace amounts of Riesling Italico grapes.
The aromatics show cardamom, white pepper and soft pink grapefruit. Persistent apricot and ripe tropical citrus fruits gracefully swirl around a focused stream of intense minerality. An impeccably balanced wine.

Quarz Sauvignon Blanc

Cantina Terlan, Quarz Sauvignon Blanc, 2006

Golden straw colored, Quarz has a tremendous bouquet of hyacinth, freshly chopped herbs, lemon peel, grapefruit, ginger and wildflower honey. Tremendous terroir on both the nose and the palate where rich yet racy apricot, quince and grapefruit flavors are encompassed in underlying notes of bracing chalk, petrol and lime. The finish is very long, lovely and contemplative.

Pinot Bianco

Andriano, Pinot Bianco, 2008

This fertile calcareous clay soil is typical of the area and
leaves its footprint in the wine’s character. These cooler climatic conditions with respect to other areas in Alto Adige are responsible for the crisp acidity in the wines that give them their unique complexity and freshness.

Pale yellow in color with slight reflections of green. The bouquet of apples and pears follows through on the palate combining with balanced acidity for a long full finish.

Vermentino Guado Al Tasso (Bolgheri)

Antinori, Vermentino Guado Al Tasso (Bolgheri), 2008

Of a distinct character; pale yellow. The intense aromas typical of the grape variety. Good fruit and balanced on the palate; nice length and some mineral notes.

“Our No. 2 bottle, the 2008 Guado al Tasso, an estate owned by the Antinori family in the coastal region of Bolgheri, was lighter-bodied, but perhaps more elegant, with pretty, floral, citrus and mineral aromas.”

Nuragus "Selegas"

Argiolas, Nuragus "Selegas", 2008

There are notes, here, of some orange rind, a little Mediterranian spice and rich fruitiness in a crisp and dry package. Despite its abundant fruit, it is quite elegant on the palate. A house favorite for many vintages.

Vermentino di Sardegna "Costamolino"

Argiolas, Vermentino di Sardegna "Costamolino", 2008

Antonio Argiolas and his twin sons, Franco and Giuseppe, have worked diligently to fulfill their commitment to become the leaders in Sardinian enology.
Costamolino is straw yellow in color with green highlights and an intense yet delicate bouquet that displays distinct characteristics fo the variety. Supple aromas of citrus, pineapple, tropical fruits and honey. Delicate and pleasantly refreshing on the palate.

“Of the six bottles from Sardinia in the tasting, only three made our top 10, though the 2008 Costamolino from Argiolas was not only the No. 1 wine in the tasting but, at $14, our best value as well. It had the rich, full-bodied texture characteristic of the Sardinian vermentinos, yet was well balanced with flavors of lemon, ginger and nuts.”
