Italian - White

The wonderful white wines of Italy are often over-looked in favor of white wines from France and the new world. However, Italian whites do not escape the attention of those in the know. They tend to be very good values and pair extremely well with food. Many wines from our Italian White inventory are great for summer-time drinking or pairing with seafood and Mediterranian specialties.

"Vintage Tunina"

Jermann, "Vintage Tunina", 2007

The 2007 Vintage Tunina is very pretty in this vintage. An open, inviting bouquet leads to a perfumed, honeyed expression of ripe peaches, apricots, flowers and mint with gorgeous textural richness, depth and elegance. A round, soft finish. Vintage Tunina is a blend of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit that revolutionized the Italian wine scene in the mid-1970s and served as the archetype for the blended cuvees that nearly every other producer in Friuli makes today.

Franz Haas, Pinot Grigio "Kris", 2009

This wine is a terrific value. Very clean and refreshing.
The wine is pale yellow in color with greenish reflections. The nose recalls acacia flowers and the delicate scent of almonds.
Beats other Pinot Grigios that are better known and more expensive.

Quite full-bodied with green apple and minerality. Good, tart and citrusy finish.

Quarz Sauvignon Blanc

Cantina Terlano, Quarz Sauvignon Blanc, 2006

Golden straw colored, Quarz has a tremendous bouquet of hyacinth, freshly chopped herbs, lemon peel, grapefruit, ginger and wildflower honey. Tremendous terroir on both the nose and the palate where rich yet racy apricot, quince and grapefruit flavors are encompassed in underlying notes of bracing chalk, petrol and lime. The finish is very long, lovely and contemplative.

Pinot Bianco

Cantina Andriano, Pinot Bianco, 2008

This fertile calcareous clay soil is typical of the area and
leaves its footprint in the wine’s character. These cooler climatic conditions with respect to other areas in Alto Adige are responsible for the crisp acidity in the wines that give them their unique complexity and freshness.

Pale yellow in color with slight reflections of green. The bouquet of apples and pears follows through on the palate combining with balanced acidity for a long full finish.

"Cervaro della Sala"

Antinori, "Cervaro della Sala", 2008

Castello della Sala is the Antinori family’s estate in Umbria. The 2008 Cervaro della Sala flows from the glass with delicate layers of mineral-infused yellow fruit, smoke and flowers. The 2008 is a somewhat lithe, linear Cervaro della Sala, that is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Cervaro della Sala is Chardonnay and Grechetto aged in French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.”

Vermentino di Sardegna "Costamolino"

Argiolas, Vermentino di Sardegna "Costamolino", 2009

This incredible value from Sardinia is a very well-balanced wine that displays aromas of fresh flowers. Light and easy but with plenty of finesse and a terrific mouth-feel. This will win out over a lot of $20 Pinot Grigios and Chardonnays as the an ideal warm-weather wine, indoors or out.

Blange' Langhe Arneis

Ceretto, Blange' Langhe Arneis, 2009

Arneis is a native varietal which produces a lovely, dry, fruity wine with hints of pears and apples. Its fragrance and flavor are also enhanced by a small amount of CO2.
When the Ceretto family produced its first Arneis, only 74 acres of this grape were planted in the entire region.
The Ceretto’s Arneis success inspired a tremendous rise in its popularity, and today there are more than 1000 acres.

The Ceretto Arneis is still considered a benchmark for the region.
