Pinot Noir "Kris"

Franz Haas, Pinot Noir "Kris", 2008

Pinot Nero (aka Pinot Noir) is finding a very favorable home in the northeastern area of Italy. There are several excellent producers of Pinot Noir in the Alto-Adige region that made the other Pinot cousin, Pinot Grigio so famous. A very fine value Pinot Noir.

"Il Ducale" IGT Toscana

Ruffino, "Il Ducale" IGT Toscana, 2006

The lastest and superb generation of winemakers make a wine with more latitude of expression but within the great history of Ruffino Tuscan wines.
Based on Sangiovese, but blended with grapes outside the parameters of Chianti (20% each Merlot and Syrah.) The result is IL DUCALE.
The Syrah adds pleasant spicy hints which intertwine with scents of undergrowth and Mediterranean herbs, characteristic of Sangiovese and with the softness and roundness of the Merlot.

"Tuttobene" IGT

Angelini - San Leonino, "Tuttobene" IGT, 2006

Angelini, one of Chianti’s most prestigious producers, has come up with a new “everyday red” from his Tuscan estate. Refreshing hints of blackberry fruit mingle with floral aromas and good body. Makes a delicious everyday alternative to a fine Chianti Classico.

"Perdera"

Argiolas, "Perdera", 2007

The intense ruby red color of this wine is typical of the Monica grape. Persistent aromas of ripened cherry, cassis, black pepper carry through to the palate and are followed by sweet hints of chocolate and firm tannins. Very vibrant, rich and rustic. An excellent wine with spicy food, pasta with tomato or meat sauces, casseroles, and medium aged cheeses.

Barbaresco

Basarin, Barbaresco, 2005

“Fresh and precise on the nose, with plum and dried porcini aromas. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. A bit reserved now, but I like the clean and focused character in this wine.”
Wine Spectator
“Garnet red in color; intense and complex on the nose, with aromas of ripe red fruit and spice. The flavor is warm and vigorous; the mouth-feel rich and soft. The wine is well-balanced, intense and with a long finish.”

Bruno Giacosa, Barbaresco "Asili" DOCG, 2005

Giacosa’s 2005 Barbaresco Asili is noticeably rounder, sweeter and denser than the Santo Stefano. It shows remarkable balance and harmony in an incredibly pure, graceful style. The tannins are so finessed and elegant it is hard to actually perceive them on the palate. Here too, the wine shows awesome inner balance and poise. Sweet raspberries, flowers, roses and spices are just some of the nuances that emerge from this incredibly delicious, promising Barbaresco.

Barbaresco "Asili" Riserva DOCG

Bruno Giacosa, Barbaresco "Asili" Riserva DOCG, 2004

“The 2004 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is even more compelling "than the Rabaja. It floats on the palate with an ethereal core of sweet fruit that calls to mind a profound Musigny, but with the unmistakable structure of Nebbiolo. The perfumed purity of the fruit carries all the way through to the deeply satisfying, resonating finish. Made in a soft, seductive style, this remarkable wine is decidedly more approachable and easy to appreciate today than the Rabaja. Giacosa fans will have a great time discussing the merits of the Rabaja and the Asili in 2004, but to me they are virtually equally moving; Asili for its feminine gracefulness and Rabaja for its size and power. The Asili should prove more accessible at an earlier age. Bruno Giacosa says his 2004 Asili Riserva will turn out to be just like his 2000 Asili Riserva, the wine he still thinks is the best he’s ever made.” -WINE ADVOCATE
