Lovers of more serious rose will tell you that the best examples come from Bandol where the roses show a lighter style equivalent of her world-famous reds. This beauty shows the expected brightness along with a very nice darker cherry/raspberry style. Bring this magnum size to a picnic, to the beach or even to the terrace or back yard.

Chateau Pavie is one of the most prestigious St. Emilion properties in all of Bordeaux. Their rosé is produced from the younger vines of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Quite a serious rose, especially for the price.

Winemaking at Domaine Olga Raffault has been a family tradition for more than 60 years. Once run by Olga herself, the winery was passed onto Olga’s son, Jean, and has most recently been under the direction of her granddaughter Sylvie and husband Eric.
The rosé is produced by the saignée method—“bleeding some of the red wine” after between eight and twelve hours of skin contact, the fruit having originated from sandy and gravelly terroir.

Remy Pedreno (aided by one of the princes of Cote Rotie, Rene Rostaing) has put together a blockbuster rose with aromas of strawberry, roses and some peppery spices. This blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignane is a big, rustic mouthful of pleasure. Costs more but well worth it. Will stand up to a roast chicken (a little ratatouille on the side, please.)
