"Condes de Albarei" Albarino

Condes de Albarei, "Condes de Albarei" Albarino, 2009

Albarino, a white grape native to Galicia—the part of Spain that sits to the north of Portugal—hard by the Atlantic. Not suprisingly the vineyards are influenced by the temperatures and saltiness of the ocean.
The best Albarinos—and this is one of them—exhibit peach and lime aromas. There is usually a little spritz on the tongue. Very nice as an aperitif or with lighter fare.

Pazo de Senorans ==, Albarino, 2008

“Pear, melon, brine and grapefruit flavors give depth to this round white, which is rich enough for food, but a light spritz keeps it lively.”

Albarino

Pazo de Senorans, Albarino, 2009

Pazo Senorans’ 2009 Albarino beautifully displays the high quality of the 2009 vintage in Rias Baixas. Light gold in color, it offers up a splendid bouquet of mineral, honeysuckle, lemon, and tropical aromas. Round, creamy, and remarkably concentrated, this outstanding effort will provide much pleasure over the next 4 years.

Bierzo

Pago de Valdoneje, Bierzo, 2008

Preserving the family’s commitment to quality, the wine is made from 100% estate fruit, with all winemaking, bottling and cellaring done on the family property.

The winemaking is overseen by famed local enologist Raul Garcia. Produced entirely from Mencia grapes, the indigenous red varietal from Northwestern Spain, this is a wine known for its fragrant, mouth-filling fruit characteristics. In order to preserve the integrity of the old vines while delivering a fresh, modern palate, traditional winemaking techniques are augmented by 100% fermentation in stainless steel cuves.

Monastrell

Castano, Monastrell, 2008

Here is an example of why so many importers are flocking to the Yecla area to buy wine from the old vine, head-pruned Mourvedre planted in the region’s stark landscape. A dense ruby color is followed by a sweet, pure nose of blueberries, raspberries, and chocolate, loads of fruit, medium body, sweet tannin, and a long, ripe finish.
[100% Mourvedre, or Monastrell as it is known in Spain.]
