Bourgogne Aligote

Domaine Ramonet, Bourgogne Aligote, 2007

Aligote is the other white grape of Burgundy and produces wines with a spicy aroma and often a very crisp palate and finish. Domaine Ramonet produces one of Burgundy’s best versions.

Domaine Guy Roulot, Bougogne Aligote, 2008

This is a delicious Aligote. The wine is produced by one of the great Meursault producers Guy Roulot. Fresh, tangy citrus notes followed by wonderful flavors of grapefruit and lemon. Quite crisp.

Batard-Montrachet

Joseph Drouhin, Batard-Montrachet, 2007

“…The aromatic profile is broad, with notes of lemon zest, spice, white flower and ripe orchard fruit that is in keeping with the rich, full and equally ripe broad-shouldered flavors that possess plenty of taut muscularity and drive, all wrapped in a powerful and stunningly long finish. An explosive wine with terrific cellar potential that should improve for up to a decade.

Batard Montrachet Grand Cru

Domaine Jean Chartron, Batard Montrachet Grand Cru, 2006

100% Barrel fermentation (50% new). Matured on the lees for 12 months. Powerful, complex and intense nose of white flowers and white fruits (peach, apple and pear) with a hint of honey and mineral notes. The palate is rich, powerful and complex with a very long persistence.

Batard-Montrachet

Rene Lequin-Colin, Batard-Montrachet, 2007

Blending 300 plus years of family wine-making tradition with 21st Century techniques in the vineyard and the winery, this small production maison produces outstanding White Burgundies from tiny holdings in Chassagne, Santenay and, in this case, a sliver of acreage on the Grand Cru hillside of Batard-Montrachet (considered by many to be the finest Chardonnay site in the world.)
The fruit, here, is not overwhelmed by the new oak showing some wonderful hints of pineapple, green apple and spiciness.

Batard-Montrachet

Marc Morey, Batard-Montrachet, 2006

“Ripe peach and apricot complemented by smoky oak and clove. Fat, silky and rich but not particularly sweet, despite a very ripe hint of marzipan. Finishes with a whiplash of flavor and a slight bitterness. Rather powerful but not showy today; Mollard notes that this was very open and floral two months ago. "

Batard Montrachet

Michel Niellon==, Batard Montrachet, 2006

The barest hint of toast frames very ripe orchard fruit, particularly peach, along with citrus and floral notes that continue onto the rich, round and notably powerful flavors that possess ample dry extract as well as plenty of size, muscle and weight on the intense driving and persistent finish. While I often prefer the Chevalier at this address, it’s clear that in 2006, there is another dimension here.

Beaune Clos de la Mousse

Domaine Bouchard, Beaune Clos de la Mousse, 2005

From just south of Teurons and a Bouchard monopole, the 2005 Beaune Clos de la Mousse displays high-toned cherry, smoked meat and chalk dust aromatics, comes onto the palate with relative delicacy, but finishes with persistent purity of fruit and subtle meat, fruit pit, and stony mineral dimensions.

Beaune Clos de la Mousse

Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils, Beaune Clos de la Mousse, 2006

“A red raspberry-infused nose that is both ripe and elegant complements perfectly the round, rich, supple and generous flavors that coat the palate on the firm and dusty finish. This is also delicious and serious but doesn’t quite have the finishing depth though I like the mid-palate concentration.”
