This is a lovely bottle in the “new world” style without the heaviness often associated with some California fruit bombs.

Crème de casis, bitter dark chocolate, coffee grindings, dried mint and graphite flow seamlessly from the nose to the palate. The palate is well structured with fine -grained
tannins, concentrated, but with an overall elegance that can be difficult to find when coupled with this intensity.

Woodthorpe Cabernet/Merlot is a rewarding, straightfoward wine. It has a dark ruby color, aromas of blackberry, clove, and vanilla with a juicy, supple palate showing plum and currant flavors on a sustained finish.

A complex, deftly balanced wine with no single dominant varietal character. The nose features both red and dark fruits with notes of tobacco, cedar and roasted coffee. 2002 was an excellent, warm harvest that features ripe and fine grained tannic structure.

This wine exhibits a lovely breadth and depth of aromas: red fruits of the forest along with black cherry underpinned by savoury, dried herb and black pepper. The wine has a rich front-palate which displays these same characters in abundance, while the mid-palate is fleshy and well-textured. The wine finishes with a lovely combination of fine-grained tannins and fruit.
