2008 Bordeaux Futures

2008 Bordeaux Futures: Sherry-Lehmann’s Advance Offering
The 2008 vintage in Bordeaux is that seemingly rare combination of very high quality and very fair prices. Robert Parker calls the vintage “dramatically better” than he’d expected, and a vintage “at least excellent in quality.”
Moreover, Sherry-Lehmann is excited about the pricing of the vintage. There are a slew of values and great reductions from the top chateaux.
Again, this year we’ve held back from offering these wines until all of our positions were secured. Quantities have been cut, though, and many wines are more limited than they have been in the past. We expect many of the wines offered to sell out quickly so act fast.
And one more point: in June of 2001, we included the following excerpt from Steven Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar with our 2000 Bordeaux futures offering, and it seems appropriate to quote it again this year:
“But futures buyers beware: many American wine retailers are in shaky financial condition today, as they attempt to work off high inventory in a slow market. It’s extremely likely that some shops that take money upfront for Bordeaux futures will never deliver the wine. If en primeur prices from stores you’ve never heard of seem too good to be true, they probably are; merchants in deep financial trouble may view your cash as a way to get through a difficult period. Stick to major retailers with established track records for delivering the wines they’ve sold as futures, even if you must pay a slight premium.” —Steven Tanzer, International Wine Cellar, May/June 2001 issue
Sherry-Lehmann has been offering Bordeaux Futures since the 1959 vintage and has been in business since 1934. We deliver!
